In some cases the backspace key won't work on Putty, generally over console connections. In order to fix it go to Terminal -> Keyboard -> The backspace key Control-H#

Change terminal data settings:

Putty > Connection > Data > Terminal-type string xterm-256color

Change font settings on Putty:

Putty > Window > Appearance > Allow selection of variable-pitch fonts
